The long arm of the law has caught up with Kaushlendra Prapannacharya Falahari Maharaja, 70, after it was alleged that he sexually assaulted a 21-year-old at his headquarters in Alwar, a town in Rajashtan state.
According to police officer Jaisingh Nathawat, the matter was brought to the notice of security operatives after the parents of the girl who are said to be followers of the sect leader complained that he assaulted their daughter on August 7.
In her confessional statement, the victim, revealed that she had been warned by the sect leader not to tell anyone about the incident but she decided to break her silence after another self-proclaimed guru, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was tried and sentenced to 20 years in prison last month for raping two followers.
Reports say the suspect has been sent to prison by a court for 15 days while the police complete their investigation into the case.
Recall last month that Gurmeet better known as ‘godman’ in India was jailed after he was convicted by a court for raping two of his followers in 2002.
A judge in Rohtak town in Haryana, a northern state in India handed out the punishment to the 50-year-old sect leader.
